Reverse engineering of plastic parts: 3D scanning and reproduction

You have the part but not the drawing? We 3D scan it, redraw it and reproduce it, by injection moulding or as a one-off.

A part breaks. The supplier no longer makes it, stops answering, or delivers months late. And nobody ever had the drawing.

That is exactly when reverse engineering earns its keep: we start from the physical part, even worn or broken, and turn it into a clean 3D file that lets you make it again.

Reverse engineering, step by step

1. 3D scanning your part

We 3D scan the part. The scanner captures its full geometry, including curves and details a caliper cannot measure well. Cracked or incomplete parts can be scanned too: we rebuild the missing areas afterwards.

2. New drawings, ready for production

A scan is not a drawing. Our industrial design partner takes the point cloud and redraws the part properly, with the right dimensions, radii and draft angles for moulding. You get a usable STEP file that belongs to you.

It is also the moment to improve the part: reinforce an area that kept breaking, change material, simplify a shape.

3. Reproduction

Depending on the quantity, we choose the right process:

  • injection moulding for a production run, every part identical;
  • silicone for a one-off or a handful of parts;
  • cast aluminium when the original part was metal or needs to be.

Who is it for?

  • Industrial maintenance: clips, pads, gears and housings that wear out and cost a lot as original parts.
  • Companies whose supplier is letting them down: delays, falling quality, a lost mould, or no answer at all.
  • Restoration and older machines, when the part simply no longer exists.
  • Distributors who want to produce their own spare parts and stop depending on a single manufacturer.

Why work with an injection moulder

Plenty of companies offer 3D scanning. Very few take it all the way to the finished part. With us, scanning, drawings and production are handled by the same small team: no middlemen, no file passed from hand to hand.

That is what makes us fast. An agile structure, quick decisions, and one person who knows your part from scan to delivery.

What we need to get started

  • the part, or failing that a few photos with rough dimensions;
  • the quantity you need, per year or in total;
  • how the part is used: mechanical loads, temperature, food contact or not.
