Child-Resistant Closure Manufacturing
Moulding Injection produces certified child-resistant closures (CRC) for the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Our push-turn and squeeze-turn closure designs meet the stringent requirements of EN ISO 8317 and US 16 CFR 1700.20, verified through independent panel testing with child and senior adult groups.
We produce closures in PP and HDPE for DIN 18, DIN 20, and DIN 22 neck finishes, compatible with standard pharmaceutical bottles and vials. Annual capacity exceeds 5 million closures across all formats.
Material Selection
Closure bodies are moulded in injection-grade PP (Moplen HP548R) for its excellent living hinge properties and chemical resistance. The liner is produced in LDPE or TPE depending on the required seal characteristics and chemical compatibility with the product.
For aggressive chemical contents (solvents, acids), we offer fluorinated PP or HDPE closures with PTFE-faced liners providing absolute chemical barrier.
Mould Design & Production
Our 16-cavity high-speed mould produces closures at 4-second cycle times on a 200-ton electric press. The mould incorporates unscrewing cores for the thread, cam-actuated slides for the tamper-evident band, and automatic part separation.
Dimensional tolerance on thread engagement is held to ±0.03mm to ensure reliable opening torque (1.0-2.5 Nm) across the specified temperature range (-20°C to +50°C).
Certification & Testing
Every closure design undergoes EN ISO 8317 panel testing: 200 children (42-51 months) and 100 seniors (50-70 years). Results must show <15% child opening rate and >90% senior opening rate. We manage the entire certification process with accredited test laboratories.
Production quality control includes torque testing (application and removal), seal integrity testing, and environmental stress crack resistance (ESCR) testing per ASTM D1693.
Industries Served
Our CRC closures protect pharmaceutical liquids (cough syrups, drops), household chemicals (cleaning products, solvents), agricultural chemicals (pesticides, herbicides), and cannabis packaging in regulated markets.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does CRC certification take?
Panel testing takes 4-6 weeks once closure samples are available. Total development timeline from concept to certified production: 12-16 weeks including mould fabrication.
Can you produce closures with integrated dispensing features?
Yes, we produce CRC closures with flip-top dispensers, measured dosing cups, and dropper inserts. All variants maintain their child-resistant certification.
What colours and branding options are available?
Any RAL or Pantone colour in the base material. Printing options include pad printing (logo), hot stamping (foil), and laser marking for traceability codes.
