In electrical equipment, the LCD screen must be held firmly in place, inside a housing where fire safety comes first. The supports holding it cannot be made of ordinary plastic.
For a UK manufacturer of power grid equipment, we produced two LCD screen supports injection-moulded in flame-retardant PC/ABS.
- a 106 mm support, 15.6 mm wide and 8 mm thick, and a second one of 110 mm;
- a fixing boss at each end for the mounting screw;
- reinforcing ribs on the back for stiffness without extra weight.
Why flame-retardant PC/ABS
PC/ABS combines the impact and heat resistance of polycarbonate with the easy moulding of ABS. The grade used here is flame retardant: its datasheet (Bayblend FR1514) gives a UL94 V-0 rating at 1.5 mm.
The project
- two single-cavity moulds, one per part number;
- a first run in black, then production in white;
- 5,000 parts of each reference, moulds marked as client property.
